The Windstream Legal Department is seeking an experienced communications attorney to join its regulatory legal compliance team. In this position, you will provide legal counsel and support for Windstream business owners on state and federal telecommunications and broadband-related compliance requirements. As counsel you will interact with internal business owners and external regulatory agencies-focusing on proactive legal research, guidance and the development of compliance procedures as a result of external and internal changes.  This position requires strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work in and follow through in a high-volume environment. Additional responsibilities include analysis and research of company policies to ensure legal compliance and research and analysis of risk exposure for emerging regulatory issues.  This position is remote and reports to Senior Counsel.

Essential Functions:




  • Telecommunications law-related regulatory support to internal groups responsible for several compliance matters including, but not limited to compliance with federal and state broadband program requirements, quality of service obligations, and wireless licensing requirements. 

  • Providing compliance support to business owners for federal and state funding programs (USF, RDOF, state broadband programs, etc)

  • Respond to state regulatory commission inquiries and audits regarding compliance matters and provide legal support to the corporate legal group in responding to formal complaints.

  • Review new legislative and regulatory developments and assess potential implications for the business.  Provide guidance and implementation plans for the business; contribute to and oversee the implementation of changes to internal procedures. Interacts with all levels, including leaders in the organization.

  • Collaborating with business owners on new products and services reviewing for regulatory compliance, legal and business risks, and other potential pitfalls.

  • Additional duties as assigned by management





Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • JD degree from an accredited college or university and good standing in at least one state bar.
  • 3-5 years of communications or broadband law experience at a law firm and/or in an in-house setting.
  • Skilled and competent in administrative and regulatory la, reviewing legislation and administrative rules.
  • Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills, including drafting and analytical skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and adept at a fast past environment. Must be resourceful, able to work independently, and must have a keen business sense.  Must also be able to apply pragmatic solution to business needs.

Minimum Qualifications: College degree and 8 years professional level experience with 3-4 years supervisory experience; or 12 years professional level related experience with 3-4 years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related experience desired.
