Windstream signs Statement of Support for Guard and Reserve members
Arkansas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, recently visited our corporate office for an event in which John Fletcher signed a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve.
The Statement of Support confirms Windstream Holdings, Inc. joins other employers in pledging:
“Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units” said Don C. Morrow, ESGR state chair emeritus “I am asking all Arkansas employers to take a look at their current human resources policies to incorporate policies supportive of Guard and Reserve employees. Many Arkansas employers provide support above and beyond what is required by law by offering pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits, which complement coverage provided by the military, when their employees are mobilized.”
When asked about the criteria, Don Morrow said “By meeting the Statement of Support criteria, Windstream Holdings, Inc. pledges to stand proudly with its Guard and Reserve employees, who continue to answer their nation’s call to defend our way of life. Their personal sacrifices are essential to the strength of our nation.”

Windstream named gold-level Military Friendly employer
Windstream received a Gold-Level Military Friendly® Employer award from Victory Media, originator of the family of Military Friendly Employer and Military Friendly Schools resources for veterans and their families.
The award provides a competitive view of how well employers and other organizations support the military community within their respective organization compared to their peers, according to Victory Media.
“Windstream is proud to receive this Military Friendly Gold award because we are committed to helping veterans transition to the civilian workforce,” said John Fletcher, chief human resource officer, executive vice president and general counsel of Windstream.
“We share similar values with veterans – like accountability, collaboration, agility and respect,” Fletcher said. “Veterans bring a unique mindset and skillset to what we do at Windstream. They have the leadership, commitment to task, and technical skills that we need.”
Windstream stepped up its military hiring program in 2015, hiring Angel Ramos, a retired command sergeant major, to lead the effort.
“Making the transition from the structure and familiarity of the military lifestyle is one of the biggest obstacles veterans face,” Ramos said. “At Windstream, veterans are welcomed into a culture that emphasizes the teamwork and family-oriented environment they are looking for.”
The 2017 Gold-Level Military Friendly® Employer designation reflects Victory Media’s assessment of Windstream’s ability to meet thresholds in six areas: military employment application, hiring, turnover, promotion and advancement rates, and National Guard and Reserve policies.
