The Transport Network Operations Tier III Engineer/Senior consultant will be responsible for monitoring, trouble shooting, and repair of the Windstream transport backbone. Primary focus to serve as technical escalation for network repair and customer-facing teams, with responsibilities of advanced diagnosis/troubleshooting, rerouting and redesigning services to resolve outages and impact within the Windstream Transport Networks.

 

Secondary focus to maintain assigned platform(s) from a proactive perspective to ensure the specific platform(s) are operating nominally.

 

Tertiary focus to provide training to personnel within the immediate team as well as documentation to aide all support and repair levels.


Other activities may include:

 

  • Responsible for the creation of an RCA/RFO for critical outages.
  • Troubleshoot Electrical/Optical/DWDM issues on the network as needed.

  • Monitor netcool

  • Professionally interact with both internal and external customers.

  • Create and document various Method of Procedures to support repair activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of transport technologies including DACS, SONET and C/DWDM, Layer 1 and 2 transport

  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of operations of multiple transport platforms including but not limited to: Infinera DTN/DTN-X, Coriant 7100/Groove, Cyan Z-Series, Ciena 6500/4200/2500/2600, Cisco MSTP/MSPP, BTI, ERC, Titan 532/L/5500, TDAX, Lucent Wavestar, Alcatel DACS, Lucent DMX, Nortel Classic

 Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Experience with the following equipment: Fujitsu Flashwave product line (7420,4500, 4100, FLM150, FLM2400, Lucent DDM2000, Lucent DMX; Hatteras, Overture, Alcatel 1640, 1648, 1603; Nortel OC48Classic; Tellabs 5500, Alcatel 1631, Cyan Z33/Z77, Cisco ONS 15454, Cisco CPT, Infinera, Ciena 4200, Tellabs 7100

  • SME in Transport Equipment

  • Ability to effectively isolate issues in a timely manner

  • Familiar with CWDM/DWDM (C-band, L-band, Digital DWDM) theories and protocols, must have experience with troubleshooting wavelengths (2.5g, 10g, 40g, 100g)

  • Proficient troubleshooting SONET (OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, OC-192)

  • Thorough understanding of sub-tended equipment and circuits

  • Ability to effectively direct field technicians and other personnel during troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

  • Thorough understanding of change management

  • Requires little to no supervision

  • Experience with test sets (JDSU, T-berd, Exfo)

  • Attention to detail and good troubleshooting methodologies.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills


Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements: 

Associate Degree in a technical discipline and4-6 years technical/telephony experience with 5 years directly related to thejob; or 8 years of directly related telephony or network operations experienceand/or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experiencerequired.
