Job Description:

Analyzes requirements to meet design criteria in support of various complex automation initiatives directly relating to long range lab activities.  Candidate must be able to perform at a high level of competency and self-reliance, highly motivated self-starter with expertise in object-oriented language skills such as C++/C#, Java, JavaScript or Python.  Candidate must have the capability to translate somewhat complex requirements from end-users and assist them with complex topology, automation design, implementation and validation efforts.  Provides leadership to identify best practices and recommendations to minimize risks and maximize uptime and performance. Enhances operations and maintains reliability of systems.  May perform administrative work relating to projects and assignments.  Works on problems of diverse scope.  Exercise full understanding of practices, policies and procedures. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work. 


Minimum Requirements:
  • Basic Central Office Practices and Procedures
  • Firm knowledge of Juniper, Nokia and Cisco routers
  • Test analysys
  • Object Oriented Programming
  • Python Scripting

Desired Qualifications:

  • Additional experience with any of the following is a plus but not required
    • Structured wiring
    • Telecommunications Equipment
      • Juniper EX, MX and SRX
      • Nokia SR7, SR7s
      • Cisco 7600, 7200, CRS
    • Virtualization including VMWare ESXi, KVM, OpenStack & Hyper-V
    • Compute Resource Management including
      • Cisco UCS-MINI/FlexPOD series servers
      • Dell R-Series servers
      • HPE DL-Series servers
      • HPE AF-Series servers and frame
      • NetApp, HP or Dell NAS and SAN systems
    • Network automation
      • Ansible modules
      • RESTful APIs
    • Video
      • Encoding technology and workflow
      • Streaming IP Video delivery

Ability to stay current with the economic and technological developments in the industry. 


The candidate must be able to perform the following key job functions:

  • Engineering Strategy - Collaborate with outside teams on how to leverage existing capabilities that can be used to generate time savings or enhanced testing capabilities, feature requests with various teams for design and system enhancements, new vendor analysis and expansion capabilities as a result of market analysis.
  • Testing and Trials – Participate in testing vendor solutions and code revision varieties to determine the most stable/reliable solution.  Assist with running the final selection through internal/external trials to proof in features, overcome lab limitations and work with real world scenarios.
  • Implementation of the Design via IT and Engineering Systems - Take the defined requirements above, work with IT and engineering systems to get them implemented.  Also, document all technical requirements; work with Business Units, process organization and IT to finalize the mechanism on how technical attributes get passed through the process.
  • Create and manage various scripts to perform specific and targeted tasks – From a defined set of tasks drill down to fundamental steps and create workflows using a combination of pre-written scripts, new scripts and defined network functions to create automated workflows.

Minimum Requirements:


College degree or 5 years of experience related Software/Technical experience, or a combination of education and related Software/Technical experience required.  2 years of experience with information systems principals
