About This Role:
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Writer and Engineer specializing in Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering. This role will involve collaborating with architecture teams to develop, validate, and publish comprehensive engineering and construction guidelines specifically related to OSP engineering. The successful candidate will also serve as an adjutant to the Head of OSP Planning, Engineering and Permitting and act as a liaison to the Broadband Engineering team. Additionally, this position will encompass various other assigned duties within the organization.
What You'll Do:
1. Collaborate with architecture teams: Work closely with cross-functional architecture teams to gather technical information and translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation and training.
2. Develop and validate engineering guidelines: Create, review, and refine engineering and construction guidelines specific to Outside Plant (OSP) fiber facilities. Ensure that guidelines are accurate, up-to-date, and align with industry standards and best practices. Test implementation of guidelines.
3. Publish documentation: Prepare well-structured and visually appealing documentation for internal and external audiences, including engineering guidelines, manuals, reports, and technical presentations.
4. Support the Head of OSP Planning, Engineering and Permitting: Provide valuable assistance, contributing to various projects, initiatives, and strategic decision-making processes.
5. Liaise with Broadband Engineering: Collaborate closely with the Broadband Engineering team, serving as a key point of contact and facilitating effective communication between departments.
6. Additional duties:
- Undertake responsibilities as assigned by the organization, which may include participation in cross-functional teams, conducting research, and assisting in engineering-related activities.
- Investigate use case scenarios for new equipment and software prior to their release to engineering teams.
- Develop, update, and manage training programs for engineers.
- Provide daily support to internal and external engineers regarding standards and approved engineering practices.
- Analyze and evaluate new equipment, architectural designs, deliverables, and engineering software to enhance the quality of engineering work and optimize the efficiency of current engineering processes.
Do You Have?
1. Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer or similar role within the telecommunications industry, specifically in Outside Plant (OSP) Telecommunications Engineering.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic network design, construction, and maintenance principles.
2. Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in creating and editing technical documentation, such as engineering guidelines, procedures, and specifications, using office tools and Adobe PDF editors.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in Outside Plant (OSP) fiber facilities engineering.
- Knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Katapult, and Excel is desirable.
3. Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and translate complex technical information into easily understandable content.
4. Detail-oriented and Organizational Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in documentation.
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize work effectively.
5. Team Player:
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and foster positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
Minimum Requirements:
College degree in Engineering or a related field and 2-4 years professional level experience; or 6+ years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
