About the Role:

The OSP (Outside Plant) Construction Inspector II is responsible for overseeing and inspecting the construction and maintenance of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with contractors, engineers, and various local and state officials to ensure projects are completed accurately, safely, and within regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of OSP telecommunications construction, a strong understanding of OSP engineering prints, and a passion for helping others.

What You'll Do:

  1. Work Print Corrections:
  • Collaborate with contractors and engineers to review and correct work prints.
  • Ensure all corrections are accurately documented and communicated to relevant parties.
  • Work Order Change Forms (WOCF):
    • Execute WOCF's as needed to address changes in project scope or specifications.
    • Maintain detailed records of all changes and ensure timely updates to project documentation.
  • Pre-Construction Site Walks:
    • Conduct pre-construction site walks with contractors to assess the constructability of projects.
    • Identify potential issues and provide recommendations to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Permitting:
      • Review permits received.  Check diagrams and wording of permits for requirements of others as to the impact on the project.
    • Engage with counties, townships, EMCs, DOT, and tribal authorities to navigate regulatory requirements once the permits have been obtained by OSP Engineering and the Permit Team. 
    • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations per the permit approval documents.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee OSP construction projects upon delivery from OSP Engineering and Permitting to completion.
    • Coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Monitor project progress and address any issues that arise during construction.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports on project status, including any delays or issues encountered.

    Do you have? 

    • Extensive experience in OSP telecommunications construction.
    • Strong understanding of OSP engineering prints and the ability to interpret and correct them.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a desire to help and guide others.
    • Experience working with local and state officials, including working with permits and ensuring regulatory compliance would be a plus.
    • Ability to conduct detailed site walks and identify potential construction challenges.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and Outlook  
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet project deadlines.
    • Position may occasionally require overnight stay out of town at work locations

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including walking long distances and working in various weather conditions.
    • Valid driver's license

    Working Conditions:

    • This position may require travel to various construction sites.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet project deadlines.
    • Position may occasionally require overnight stay out of town at work locations.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications preferred.  Four years or more of any of the following: Communications construction, Field Operations, or OSP Engineering.  Experience working with contractors would be a plus.  This is a safety sensitive position.
