Job Summary:

The Sr. Network Automation Engineer will provide leadership to develop, manage, and implement an automation strategy for the Windstream IP Network. This is a key role in supporting Windstream IP Engineering team’s transformation initiatives with a key focus on replacing manual tasks with automated functionality, extending automation capabilities in MOPs, and providing continuous improvement to the IP Network through automation.  This is a new function within IP Engineering, which will require a seasoned individual who can hit the ground running.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with Internal IP Engineering and IP NOC Teams, external application and infrastructure teams, and business partners to understand challenges, requests and requirements to create a pipeline for automation opportunities.
  • Create a network automation framework, working with infrastructure automation partners, which will form the foundation of our network automation capabilities.
  • Work the pipeline and create network automation solutions as required.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the network landscape and the ecosystems that run atop the network to help drive results.
  • Provide updates to Senior Leadership about progress, issues and needs to ensure progress is maintained.
  • Work with and mentor junior engineers and provide team leadership where applicable.
  • Develop materials to educate users and leadership about automation, capabilities, benefits, etc., as part of managing change and new features.



Job Requirements

 Requirements:

  • Understanding of telecommunications industry.
  • In depth knowledge of network, systems, and application design.
  • Expert knowledge of operating systems including Linux, Unix, and Windows.
  • Expert knowledge of provider network protocols including Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, NAT/PAT, BGP, IS-IS and MPLS and SDN protocols.
  • IPAM knowledge
  • Deep knowledge of network automation frameworks.
  • Extensive experience with Ansible and the Ansible networking modules in particular.
  • Experience with Ansible Tower, AWX, or ONAP
  • Experience with automation scripting using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Jenkins
  • Experience with NAPALM Network Automation, Netmiko
  • BASH shell scripting
  • Familiarity with versioning control in tools such as Github, Gitlab, or Bitbucket
  • In depth understanding of coding languages (such as Go, C, and Java) and scripting languages (such as Python, NodeJS, Ruby, Perl and PHP), application platforms (such as Tomcat or Jetty), API development including REST/JSON.
  • Experience with Node.JS, MongoDB, ExpressScript, Angular (MEAN stack).
  • Combination of software engineering skills using NETCONF, YANG, YAML.
  • Good analytical skills; the ability to prioritize projects; good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and collaborative teamwork skills are a must.
