General Summary

Performs routine installation, maintenance, and repair activities for network systems including voice, data, network, transport, and video equipment. Installs, maintains, and repairs telecommunication system equipment and services primarily for business customers.  Handles mostly routine assignments.  Communicates with customers regarding installation/repair. Presents and conducts self in a professional manner; promotes positive company image to the public.  Completes post installation tests for call processing functionality. Operates a variety of tools and devices including test equipment.  Safely operates and maintains clean and organized company service vehicle.  Performs monthly routine maintenance tasks.

Minimum Requirements

Effective communication and customer service skills.  Basic math and PC skills.  Attention to detail and problem solving skills.  Basic understanding of telecommunications voice and data networks.  Knowledge of computer hardware, software, components, and applications.  Ability to distinguish colors in use of color-coded cable.  Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Capable of working aloft, climbing ladders, bending, pulling, reaching overhead, and lifting up to 50 lbs.  Must successfully complete required safety training. Must be available to work assigned schedules and extended hours including day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Must be able to enroll in CMV program to support towing portable generators. Required to respond to after hour call-outs. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. 

 

Education and Experience:

Associate Degree in a technical discipline and 2-3 years technical/telephony experience; or 4+ years of directly related telephony experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related telephony experience.


Desired Qualifications:

Understanding of various network technologies.  Training/certifications in applicable system platforms and equipment.  Knowledge and experience in network systems including voice, data, network, transport, and video equipment.  Knowledge and experience in using test equipment for trouble shooting products and services.

Associate Degree in a technical discipline and 3-4 years technical/telephony experience with 2+ years directly related to the job; or 5+ years of directly related telephony experience or an equivalent combination of education and directly related telephony experience required.
