Position Summary:

Responsible for providing operational support for Windstream’s service provider data network consisting of Juniper, Cisco, & Alcatel-Lucent routers and

switches. Knowledge of data networking concepts and technologies such as routing protocols, TCP/IP, PPP, and

Ethernet. Strong communication skills are a necessary component of the job.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrated understanding of LAN/WAN technologies including TCP/IP, Ethernet, PPP, Sonet.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Demonstrated technical skills in data networking or closely related field
  • Knowledge of OSI layer 2 technologies such as Ethernet, PPP, Sonet
  • Knowledge of OSI Layer 3 technologies (IP routing) including OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP .
  • Strong ability to work tehnicla problems of Intermediate-complexity.
  • Understanding of Network monitoring & troubleshooting practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of central office transport equipment including test methods
  • Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Act as second level suport for CSMB, ERC, and other NOC verticals as needed

Other duties:

  • Working knowledge of IP networking, ATM networking, and MPLS networking is required.
  • Working knowledge of Data Network Devices including Network Routers and Data switches.
  • Working knowledge of Data link types including Ethernet, Sonet, Serial, ATM and LAGs.
  • Stong familiarity with DSLAMs and other ATM-based systems.
  • Monitor and Troubleshoot Windstream network elements
  • Research Networking practices
  • Document work Activity and Training
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong ability to work intermediate-level problems, evaluate information, and arrive at efficent solutions. 
  • Understanding of monitoring/troubleshooting practices and procedures.
  • Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Act as first-level support for customer facing organizations.

Function Specific Job Requirements:
  • Strong understanding and ability to work on IP Subnetting tasks
  • Correctly document and close tickets in Remedy
  • Correctly submit appropriate outage notifications
  • Correctly transfer Remedy tickets between departments
  • Identify former market footprint for given CLLI/device and other tools.
  • Troubleshoot protocol bounces & determine customer impact within 30min
  • Be able to troubleshoot as needed to locate network failure point(s) & Root Cause.
  • Be able to create a vendor ticket and provide all required/requested files
  • Be able to troubleshoot port failures and other link errors
  • Be able to justify start/stop/gap times of any outage
  • Be able to provide valid, succinct outage Summaries and SAR-Statments
  • Be able to perform Install MOPs, Test MOPs, and provide SIS updates
  • Be able to identify network impacts even when ports are up (traffic monitoring/ehealth)

Professional Certifications:
One or more of the following certifications desired: CCNA, JNCIA, ALU NRS1, Network+

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:Associate Degree in a technical discipline and 3-4 years technical/telephony experience with 3 years directly related to the job; or 6 years of directly related telephony or network operations experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience or certifications.
