The Transport Network Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the work force that maintains the DWDM Core transport backbone network. Your responsibility will include managing third shift technicians to include vacation, scheduling, team meetings, process improvement, process implementation and training. This position will involve managing issues in a high pressure environment. Your team will be responsible for restoring traffic impacting services and working with engineering in some cases to restore traffic. You will be responsible for meeting company and customer driven MTTR and driving solutions with your team to meet those goals. Your daily routine will be as follows:

  • Creating RFO’s for massive outages which would include a timeline of events.
  • Manage Electrical/Optical/DWDM issues on the network as needed.
  • Constant process improvement
  • You will be working directly with customers in some instances so professionalism is key to your success.
  • You will be required to work outside of normal working hours in some cases and work an oncall schedule.

Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Experience with the following equipment: Fujitsu Flashwave product line (7420,4500, 4100, FLM150, FLM2400, Lucent DDM2000, DMX,; Hatteras, Overture, Alcatel 1648, 1603 ; Nortel OC48Classic; Tellabs 5500, Cyan Z33/Z77, Cisco ONS 15454, CPT, Infinera, Cienna 4200, Tellabs 7100
  • Highly effective management skills
  • Ability to effectively motivate staff members
  • Familiar with DWDM theories and protocols, must have experience with troubleshooting wavelengths (2.5g, 10g, 40g, 100g)
  • Proficient troubleshooting SONET(OC-3, OC-12, OC-48)
  • Thorough understanding of SONET and DWDM theory(C-band, L-band, wavelengths)
  • Thorough understanding of Linear and Ring topologies
  • Thorough understanding of sub-tended equipment and circuits
  • Ability to effectively work well with other managers in field operations and engineering
  • Thorough understanding of change management
  • Requires little to no supervision
Additional Requirements
  • Good time management skills
  • Attention to detail and good troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills is necessary.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience: 

College degree in Engineering or a related field and 5-7 years professional level experience with 0-2 years supervisory experience; or 9+ years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience with 0-2 years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
