  • Position Overview:
    Inside Plant Power(ISP) Engineer will oversee additions, repairs, and replacements to a variety of components related to the Windstream owned facilities.  Those components include AC commercial entrance, HVAC, generators, automatic transfer switch, life safety, and building roofs.  The AC Engineer will design solutions to accommodate growth and modernization as well as maintain stability throughout the network.  The ISP AC Engineer will be a Tier-3 support for the NCC to support equipment failure that can result in network downtime.  The ideal candidate will have a strong AC/HVAC background.    
    • Implements and budgets cost effective, scalable, reliable, and manageable solutions for network expansion/decommission projects.
    • Maintain forecast growth and keep N+1 capacity on HVAC, as well as replace failed and aging systems.  Able to design replacement cooling systems that align with requirements and new technology
    • Maintain reliable critical reserve on back-up site generators, support and approve repair recommendations, and design new systems to support growth and modernization efforts.
    • Maintain capacity on commercial power entrance and AC distribution.
    • Establish and maintain a repair/replacement schedule for roofs on Windstream owned facilities
    • Maintain and install life safety and fire suppression systems
    • Environmental alarming
    • Works closely with Operations, vendors, contractors, and other WIN teams to schedule and implement projects
    Education- 4 Year College Degree, BS Engineering preferred.
    Minimum Work Experience:
    • 5-10 years in telecom, 5+ years as ISP Engineer.
    • Experience using back office systems for inventory management, financial management, and work flow management.
    • Good understanding of multiple AC power configurations (phases and voltages). 
    • Good understanding of a variety of different HVAC cooling configurations, designs, and solutions. 
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings. 
    • Good analytical skills and the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects at once.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to stay current with industry costs and technological developments in the industry. 
    • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams
    Certifications: Professional Engineer license or licensed electrician preferred

Job Requirements

Education and Experience: 

College degree and 3-5 years experience or 7 + years equivalent related Engineering/Technical experience or a combination of education and related Engineering/Technical experience required.Desired Qualifications: Ability to stay current with the economical and technological developments in the industry.

Minimum Requirements: 
  • In depth understanding of telecommunications industry; in depth knowledge of one or more engineering disciplines and vendor equipment. 
  • In depth knowledge of accepted engineering practices. 
  • Computer software knowledge to include Microsoft Office, Custom Planning Tools and Databases. 
  • Good analytical skills; the ability to prioritize projects; good oral and written communication skills; and good interpersonal skills. 
  • Good project management skills.
