SUMMARY:


The Director, Federal Government Affairs will be responsible for driving advocacy and compliance efforts relating to Windstream’s interests at the federal level. In particular, the candidate will utilize a broad range of advocacy skills to develop and maintain relationships with federal government partners, track business-critical issues, and drive policy solutions that benefit our business. The position will assist the VP, Federal Government Affairs, in delivering Windstream’s regulatory and government affairs objectives. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter, with strong writing, speaking, and presentation skills. Expertise in telecommunications and/or technology policy issues (cybersecurity, privacy, competition, net neutrality, broadband deployment, etc.) will be highly valued.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the telecommunications industry, including an awareness of opportunities and risks facing Windstream and the sector as a whole.
  • Track major proceedings at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and legislation on Capitol Hill that impact our business, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Work with industry partners (other companies, trade associations [e.g., USTelecom and INCOMPAS], and outside counsel) to deliver Windstream policy objectives.
  • Develop strong internal relationships with business partners, regularly assessing their needs and communicating major regulatory and policy developments.
  • Work closely with compliance team to develop work plans to implement FCC rulings and major legislation.
  • Assist VP, Federal Government Affairs in strategically analyzing regulatory and legal developments and establishing advocacy plans.
  • Work with VP, Federal Government Affairs to advocate for policy outcomes that benefit Windstream via written comments and other materials, in-person communications, and third-party efforts.
  • Manage federal PAC spend and compliance.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, JD preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years oftelecommunications/technology policy and/or legal experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicationsskills.
  • Strong leadership presence and ability tocommunicate with leaders in government and business.
  • Ability to work independently, master complexworkflows, and manage upwards as necessary.
  • Strong advocacy and influencing skills, and adesire to build long-term professional relationships that benefit Windstream.
  • Demonstrated, effective analytical and researchskills.
  • Some (minimal) travel required.
