Reports to Director - Senior Counsel - provides legal support for Windstream's dispute resolution activities, primarily cases in litigation. Advises various internal clients on legal issues involving collection activities, customer complaints, subpoena compliance. Strong analytical and organizational skills are essential due to high volume of matters handled. Additional responsibilities include analysis and research of company policies to ensure legal compliance and research and analysis of risk exposure for emerging issues.

General Summary:

Oversee outside counsel handling all types of litigation matters in district, state and federal courts and assist in managing outside counsel fees and control costs in conjunction with case management.  Review of pleadings and discovery is required, along with managing litigation hold processes and gathering of relevant documents necessary to prepare Windstream's position in each case and to respond to document production related to discovery.

Assist with litigation before various Public Utility Commissions and other administrative bodies.  Assist with the resolution of customer disputes and other pre-litigation matters to resolve efficiently.  Assist with the management of litigation in the Claims Department and providing legal advice and analysis as needed to that group.

Responsible for internal investigation of claims and causes of action and work closely with paralegals who are also members of the litigation team. 

Provide legal support to various company organizations on a myriad of legal issues presenting possible risk exposure, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Financial Services and Accounting, Customer Support, Claims Department. Address general corporate compliance matters regarding internal corporate policies and emerging rules and regulations promulgated by governmental agencies. 

Requires the ability to work independently and efficiently manage numerous projects simultaneously. 

Highly Desired Experience and Credentials:

JD degree, plus current law license in good standing

Strong academic credentials

5-7 years of experience as a trial attorney or in-house counsel managing risk exposures

Supervisory experience desired 

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:College degree and 5-7 years professional level experience with 2-3 years supervisory experience for supervisory roles; or 9 years professional level related experience with 2-3 years supervisory experience for supervisory roles; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related experience required.
