Job Summary


Strategic Sourcing optimizes cost of goods and services.  The success of Sourcing to reduce costs through a professional sourcing process has yielded substantial savings for Windstream.


The Sourcing Consultant will lead cross-functional teams through the complete strategic sourcing process focusing on categories within a defined functional area.  It is expected this Sourcing Consultant will focus on Telecom Outside Plant Products and Services.  Products included but are not limited to Fiber and Copper Cable, Closures, Pedestals, Handholes, Telephone Poles, Outside Plant Hardware, Power, Batteries and Outside Plant Test Equipment.  Services included but are not limited to Outside Plant Construction, Outside Plant Engineering and Cable Locating.  The Sourcing Consultant will have end-to-end ownership of the sourcing process.  This will include but not limited to; organizing teams based on commodity or specific sub-category, providing expertise on vendor and market analysis, detailed financial analysis with support from Procurement Analytics, sourcing alternatives, implementation, developing savings methodologies with support from Procurement Analytics and stakeholder engagement.


Key Responsibilities/Functions


  • Identify potential sourcing opportunities through spend analysis and stakeholder relationships.
  • Effectively integrate with key functional area groups and develop good relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Research and prioritize sourcing opportunities based on potential savings and/or urgency of business need.
  • Manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Develop strategic sourcing strategies for the specific categories being purchased using specific industry analysis, criticality analysis, business knowledge, competitive analysis and sourcing expertise.
  • Coordinate external research and provide assessment of category supply market conditions.
  • Manage and lead identified sourcing team through all sourcing activities including RFP development and analysis.
  • Manage supplier risk for business-critical managed programs.
  • Effectively prepare, coordinate and conduct supplier negotiations.
  • Memorialize results of negotiations through development and review of contractual language with support from Contract Management.
  • Develop methodologies to capture savings as well as value derived negotiations and ongoing improvement activities.
  • Communicate strategic sourcing results to Windstream Executive leaders.
  • Ensure Sourcing meets its committed savings objectives with support from Procurement Analytics, by conducting variance to plan analysis.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

College degree and 5-7 years professional level experience with 2-3 years supervisory experience; or 9+ years professional level related experience with 2-3 years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related experience required.
