The Strategic Sales Engineer role will partner with Sales Teams to uncover new or incremental, margin rich, revenue opportunities within the Enterprise space. The role requires the ability to communicate detailed technical, architectural, engineering and product deliverables across multiple towers to all levels inside a customer organization. This role is highly influential in leading customers to make purchasing decisions based on solutions designed to solve the customer’s technical and financial requirements. Their blend of technical and professional skills fosters a collaborative environment with internal and external customer teams, providing a unique customer experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Consult with our prospective and current customers to discover and document the customers’ requirements around service performance, compliance needs, and risk mitigations including the customer’s technical software and hardware assets.
  • Creatively convert customer technical requirements into standard or customized Windstream solution designs to fulfill the customer’s business outcomes including implementations, operations, and security needs to drive, maintain, and increase profitable revenue.
  • Support Account Development Directors and Account Managers in proposal generation for all Windstream solutions. Including, but not limited to, pricing assistance, equipment design, Visio documentation, and technical documentation necessary in pre-sale and the post signature “hand off” event to Engineering and Service Delivery during implementation phase.   
  • Work alongside the account team to qualify, justify, and articulate the internal business case for pursuing opportunities including assessment of relationship, budget, timing, requirements, and the solution technical value proposition to high level Windstream executives.
  • Collaborate with team members to prepare, document, and present the solution design’s value proposition to the prospect or customer tailored to the title and skillset of the audience to emphasize and position the solution as the best option for our customers. 
  • Create a detailed diagram and scope of work within the Windstream solution framework to ensure a clean handover to downstream validation and delivery teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the areas of network and security to the Account Development Directors, Account Managers, and Sales Engineers in the sales region.
  • Conduct product seminar focused training to customers in collaboration with Sales teams to drive new or incremental profitable revenue.
  • Represent Windstream on customer appointments as a technical expert in cloud hosted network, voice, and security solutions.
  • Develop collaborative relationships via daily interaction with all functional engineering, implementation and both network and security operations teams at all levels.
  • Stay current on the industry, technology and vertical market news and trends.
  • Utilize expertise developed in executing the above duties to help streamline and improve Sales and SE processes. Responsible for regularly recommending improvements to management.

Do You Have:

  •          Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  •          The ability to build relationships over the phone and in person with a proactive communication style to ensure timely status updates to account team and customers and communicate with high level customer technical and executive staff.
  •          Experience extracting hidden or unrealized customer requirements and gain consensus on these requirements with the customer; experience taking ambiguous customer needs into specific, deliverable requirements.
  •          Sophisticated understanding of cloud hosted voice, data and security services including applications, communications technology, and network design. Advanced understanding of technical terminology related to company products & services. Requires general knowledge of voice, data and security hardware and virtualized services.
  •          Complex understanding of sales cycles and the solution selling process, preferably at multiple levels, i.e., Internet & Enterprise.
  •          Superior presentation and analytical skills. Must be able to work through complex issues with a methodical approach with the ability to graphically depict solutions in a compelling manner.
  •          Experience working independently and as part of a team. Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must be detail oriented.
  •          Advanced knowledge of security attack surfaces and vectors.  Ability to fulfill established Windstream IT protocols.
  •          Expert-level MS Office Suite knowledge and usage. Ability to learn internal company systems, such as Winforce, Confluence, and Human Resource systems.
  •          Intermediate understanding of company financial measures. Must have and strong understanding of telecommunications industry, vertical markets, and sales cycles.

Actual base pay for this job will depend on the candidate's primary work location and other factors, such as relevant skills and experience.

Job Requirements


Minimum Requirements: College degree in IT, Engineering or a related field and 8 years professional level experience; or 12 years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
