Sr. Core Network OSP Architect
Windstream’s Network Infrastructure Architecture team continues building upon award-winning innovation momentum in new, disaggregated, intelligent optical network technology and service innovations in the optical network domain. Windstream is seeking to expand the team with a Sr. Consultant position in core network outside plant architecture. The desired candidate would have 3-5 years working in the development, engineering, analysis, and construction of telecom outside plant products and facilities in support of mass-scale communication service provider regional and core network infrastructure and services.
Windstream seeks the Sr. Consultant to lead the evolution of Windstream’s network expansion plans by analyzing and onboarding the latest outside plant infrastructure solutions with the lowest cost profiles and best constructability innovations.

Location:
Position is remote office/WFH-compatible and travel-enabled. Ability to support company travel as required/available is essential to visit technology suppliers, attend/present at conferences, support hands-on initiatives, and access testbeds in the network lab in Little Rock, AR and supplier facilities.
Tasks:
Develop requirements for new core optical builds. Analyze construction and constructability requirements and select fiber, duct, shelter solutions, and construction techniques to maximize fiber pairs, minimize time to construct, optimize lifespan maintenance, and optimize project costs. Own RFx processes through feature, cost, and network analysis. Candidate must anticipate and understand new OSP technologies and approaches to network construction for core network builds. Cost model new network routes and alternative technologies in comparison to each other and to existing network designs. Position is responsible for day-to-day work priority and progress against corporate goals.

Minimum Requirements:
In depth understanding of communications service provider industry and core network construction; knowledge of network power and space management is a bonus. Additionally, knowledge of optical and IP network engineering disciplines and vendor equipment evolution is key. Proven ability to build economic cost models for core network fiber builds, new outside plant construction technology. In depth knowledge of accepted communications service provider engineering and operations practices. Computer software knowledge to include Microsoft Office, Custom Planning Tools, Databases, computer and network operating systems and EMS applications. Good analytical skills; the ability to prioritize projects; great oral and written communication skills; and great interpersonal skills. Good project management skills required to balance timelines and priorities of network construction and analysis projects.
Education and Experience:
College degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology; including mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering. 7 years of experience in telecom OSP Engineering or combination OSP Engineering and Network Construction. Background in fiber construction and planning would be highly valuable.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to stay ahead of the economic and technological developments in the communications service provider industry and the pace of change in data networking technologies.
