The UCaaS system administrator is responsible for the following: surveillance, alarm and event investigation, system validation testing, preparing written documentation to accompany all systems and applications; providing technical guidance and direction to management, engineers, and customer service teams regarding operating platforms; evaluating hardware faults, providing assistance to engineering by conducting system testing, log retrievals, and analysis; providing guidance to teammates and sister organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct server management on hardware and software applications to insure good working order and survivability.
  • Conduct surveillance on UCaaS application health from an operating system, application, and hardware perspective.
  • Work closely with UCaaS engineering to monitor storage, memory, disk space, and capacity from a licensing and availability perspective in a production UCaaS environment.
  • Assist in analysis and surveillance for clustered server resources such as the SAN, Load Balancers, and Cisco UCS Clusters.
  • Maintain technologies (including LDAP, IMAPS, etc) to insure server security and stability; conduct research on server hardware, software, and protocols in support of system security.
  • Monitor and provide oversight on scheduled maintenance tasks, software upgrades, security audits, and assist with system backups and recovery.
  • Understand call flow and analysis (Empirix), routing technologies (VOIP & SIP) with the capability to troubleshoot and execute hosted PBX test plans and sanity testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • The System Administrator must have strong working experience with server hardware; strong hands-on technical knowledge of the following:
  • Linux variant operating systems
  • Working knowledge of basic networking technologies including an understanding of Ethernet, IPv4 and basic switch, router and firewall configurations
  • Ability to collect and perform basic / high level analysis on system logs
  • Basic understanding of virtualization technologies along with their orchestration and management functions (e.g. VMWare, ESXi, VCenter, etc.)
  • Database technologies and Directory Services
  • DNS
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated equipment
  • Working knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN
  • Experience with database environments and requirements for high availability, multi-function environments;
  • Basic command of BASH and Python scripting a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to manage mini projects. The UCaaS admin will be required to be on call and should be self-motivated and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and vendors.
  • A System Administrator must, at a minimum, be able to translate department goals into own work assignments; independently determine and develop approaches to solutions to maintain the expected level of support and network reliability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • College degree in a Technical or a related field and 2-4 years professional level experience; or 4+ years professional level related Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Technical experience required.
