Engineering and design of DWDM systems. Develop funding approval with project plans and requirements including cost estimates. Develop the Scope Of Work including installation design packages, ordering materials, and monitoring expenditures to prevent overages. Create and maintain inside plant site documentation.  Responsible for overall project management of jobs to ensure they are on schedule and within budget through operations acceptance. Creation of budget to actual variance reporting for assigned projects.  Interpretation of industry and Windstream engineering processes, procedures, and standards.   Analyze database records, Circuit Layout Reports, and equipment records to determine and verify existing equipment or configurations.

Experience/Skills Required:

An entry level professional to perform routine engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks.  Provide limited judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections or adaptations of engineering alternatives.  Work under close supervision on required tasks with progress monitored by supervisor.  Provide guidance to aides.  This position includes technical analysis, design packet preparation, and technical review for new platforms, upgrades, and/or services.  Maintain accurate facility and equipment records used by Engineering, Provisioning, Installation, Operations, and Maintenance.

Candidates will have an Engineering Degree (EE or ME preferred) or equivalent direct experience in detail and fiber optic system engineering.

Skills developed: experience with Fiber Optic Transmission equipment, Remote Terminals, Alarming, Synchronization, DC Power, Superstructure, and site layout. Understanding of Metro-Ethernet, Long-haul and local transport, troubleshooting, detailed Method of Procedures, and Ethernet networks/services, and how to implement maintenance activity, Self-motivated, self-disciplined and possess interpersonal and team skills

  • Capable of effective planning, scheduling, and reporting the progress of projects for which he/she is responsible

  • Intermediate skills with Excel, Visio and CAD (computer aided design), Word and Access.
  • Level I engineer will focus on the smaller sized projects with limited budgets.
  • Fullfill expansion order activity for assigned projects.  Consistently manage and close  tasks accurately and within required time frame.
  • Create Job packages which include technical instruction and method of procedures to provide to the installation group for installation of new equipment.
  • Create and maintain inside plant site documentation
  • Ability to manage high volume of projects ensuring all project goals and limits are met on all assigned projects
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and priorities
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

College degree and 0-2 years related experience or 4 + years equivalent related Engineering/Technical experience or a combination of education and related Engineering/Technical experience required.Desired Qualifications: Ability to stay current with the economical and technological developments in the industry. 00043026
