Job Description – Product Database Consultant
 

POSITION SUMMARY
The Product Database Consultant will be one of the senior technical lead of the Product Database Administration function. In support of the Windstream culture, mission and values, this technology leader will be engaged in and responsible for the creation, development, and execution of all aspects of Product Database services, as well as all strategic and tactical initiatives required to support the company's needs. This role requires a service-oriented, hands-on working leader.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in all aspects of the Database Administration function to ensure that the Database Administration function is supporting the corporate vision and growth initiatives, including creating new databases, tables, queries, and maintaining and improving existing ones
  • Develop and monitor compliance with the quality standards for the department. For example; do we have licenses documented and managed, is software and the related development properly documents and accessible, etc.
  • Participate in overall IT planning, strategy development, and execution of departmental objectives. Build consensus around the company's vision via regular written and in-person communications.
  • Promote an organization that is user focused and renders outstanding customer service, high performance, teamwork, and accountability. Ensure that roles and responsibilities are clear for all team members and establish departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
  • Ensure that the company's Database systems and strategies align to facilitate the flow of information across the company.
  • Drive the identification and delivery of the various tactical initiatives and tasks that support the execution of the approved strategies for the company.
  • Take responsibility of the 24/7 delivery of all end-user services to all business locations and customers.
  • Work in a consultative fashion with the leaders of other company functions.
  • Provide accurate and meaningful data quickly and accurately with high availability and quality for use in executive reports.
  • Responsible for data security; develop and implement business continuity (IT) processes and procedures; responsible for IT disaster recovery.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and improve as necessary existing databases, queries, processes and functions.
  • Create new databases, tables, queries, processes and procedures as necessary
  • 24/7 support for problem resolution, upgrade and maintenance activities
  • Problem Management: Ensure the enterprise production organization provides effective technology support and problem management services. This function includes development of proactive processes for problem detection, reporting, tracking, and measurement.
  • Performance Management & Monitoring: Implement and manage processes and Database systems to proactively monitor the health and welfare of the company's Database systems to address concerns and issues before they happen.
  • Database systems Availability Management: Develop and manage processes designed to meet or exceed services levels for Database availability.
  • Maintenance & Configuration Management: Ensure effective processes are in place to continuously refresh infrastructure, maintain proper release levels, and proactively apply security patches.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop and execute an improved strategy for disaster recovery.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Database systems or a related field, and/or at least 10 - 15 years of experience in the IT arena.
  • Deep understanding of traditional infrastructure areas, including data centers, storage and server technologies, Database Administration, planning and engineering, support, deployment, help desk, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Excellent multi-generation segment technology planning and rationalization experience with an excellent understanding of product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of Database systems, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Proficient in a diverse technology environment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
  • Experience in implementing effective and innovative software development methodologies.
  • Domain knowledge in telecom industries would be helpful, but proven experience in delivering enterprise information Database systems is foremost.
  • Excellent program management, organizational design, execution planning and control competency.
